KANUNGU, UGANDA – Kanungu Police have launched an investigation into a serious road traffic accident that turned fatal on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a 65-year-old man.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Kabananura Kasimu, a resident of Runina Lower, Kanyantorogo Town Council who succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment after being hit by a speeding motorcycle ridden by a UPDF officer.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Kitookye Trading Center, located within Kanyantorogo Town Council, Kanungu District.
According to the Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, a preliminary police report indicates the accident involved a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UGH 008F) operated by Private Turyatunga Expedito, 34, a UPDF officer, and a pedestrian.
Based on scene findings, Pte. Turyatunga, who was allegedly traveling at high speed from Kanyantorogo towards Kitookye, lost control upon reaching the trading center and struck pedestrian Kabananura, inflicting critical injuries.
Despite efforts by healthcare professionals at Kigezi Community Hospital, Mr. Kabananura later died from the severe injuries sustained in the collision after being rushed there by Good Samaritans and first responders.
Maate confirmed that a team from Kanyantorogo Police Station, led by Cpl. Mubiru Edward, visited the accident scene and conducted a standard investigation, including documentation and a sketch plan, to determine the crash’s exact circumstances.
The UPDF officer, Private Turyatunga, was taken to the hospital, and the involved motorcycle has been impounded at Kanyantorogo Police Station pending a mechanical inspection.
Following a postmortem examination,the deceased’s body has been released to his relatives for burial as the territorial police continue to investigate the exact cause of the accident.
