KABALE – The Finance Minister and MP for Rubanda County East, Hon. Henry Musasizi, has called on the Church and its leaders to use their pulpits to promote economic development and help the government in the fight against household poverty.

Rev. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, at Our Lady of Good Shepherd-Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality.
Minister Musasizi noted that church leaders have a significant role to play in changing the mindset of Christians by encouraging them to embrace government programmes aimed at increasing household incomes, develop a culture of saving and investment, and avoid unnecessary luxury.
Musasizi said the government had put in place several interventions to fight poverty, but stressed that the responsibility for improving household incomes also rests with individual Ugandans.
He urged the Church and other religious leaders to educate and sensitise their congregations about government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), saying such initiatives can help households increase their incomes when properly embraced.
The Minister further encouraged Christians to develop a positive attitude towards saving and investing, while living within their means rather than spending heavily on luxurious lifestyles.
“Religious leaders have an important role to play in teaching people about how they can develop themselves, because many Christians place greater trust in their church leaders and are more influenced by their teachings. Christians need to cultivate a positive attitude towards saving and investing, and to live within their means instead of spending heavily on luxurious lifestyles,” Minister Musasizi said.
The Finance Minister applauded Kabale Diocese for its huge contribution to the development of the region, through supporting initiatives that promote socio-economic transformation and creating awareness about government programmes.
Attending the Mass, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, called on the Church to support government efforts to address malnutrition, which he described as a continuing challenge in Kigezi and other parts of the country.
Tayebwa urged the Church and other leaders in the region to work together in finding sustainable solutions to the problem, noting that addressing malnutrition requires collective efforts from government, religious institutions and local communities.
“I call upon the Church to join government in tackling malnutrition, which remains a serious challenge in Kigezi and other parts of the country. We must work together to find lasting solutions, because fighting malnutrition needs joint efforts from government, religious institutions and local communities,” Speaker Tayebwa said.
The newly installed Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, has called for strengthened and continued unity and collaboration among the Church, government and local communities.
He said such close cooperation and partnership among all stakeholders is vital for achieving lasting and sustainable social and economic development in Kigezi and Uganda as a whole.
The thanksgiving Mass brought together religious, political and community leaders, as well as Christians from across Kabale Diocese, to celebrate the new Bishop and pray for his ministry.
