The event, attended by a number of dignitaries both from the government and the many religious denominations, was held at St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) grounds in Kabale Municipality.
President Museveni commended the Catholic Church for partnering with government to promote socio-economic development and improve the livelihoods of Ugandans, recognising its broad contribution to national development.
He noted that the Church’s contribution extends beyond spiritual matters to education, health, charity, skills development, and community transformation, describing service to the people of God as a service to the nation and a virtue of patriotism.
The President further congratulated Bishop Emeritus Callistus Rubaramira for effectively serving as the spiritual overseer of the Kabale Diocese for the last 23 years, praising his devoted service to the people of God.
He urged the Church to strengthen its involvement in wealth creation and skills development, particularly among young people, as part of efforts to address unemployment and improve household incomes.
“I encourage the Church to spread the gospel of wealth creation and prosperity that Uganda has been proclaiming over the years. This will foster and build a skilled workforce for its projects, while closing the unemployment gap in the country, especially among the youth,” the President’s message read.
Museveni also called on the Church to establish more economic projects that can support its activities while improving the livelihoods of the communities it serves.
Bishop Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, in his maiden speech, appreciated President Museveni for the peace his government has provided nationwide and pledged swift cooperation to ensure the people’s well-being and the nation’s continued development.
He said his role will be to continue the good work the government has initiated, including establishing good health infrastructure and improving people’s welfare, all aimed at uplifting the people within the Diocese and the country at large.
“I thank President Museveni for the peace his government has brought to the country, and I pledge to work towards the government for the good of our people and national development. I will work hard to steer the improvement of health services and people’s welfare in the Diocese and the country,” Bishop Gubazire said.
The Bishop, while speaking in fatherly zeal and a shepherd’s heart, urged the priests of the Kabale Diocese to embrace joint cooperation so that their dedicated service may truly and fully reach the intended people.
Rt. Rev. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, a member of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers), takes over from the retiring Bishop Callistus Rubaramira, who has shepherded the Diocese for 23 years since his resignation was accepted by Pope Leo XIV on July 15, 2026.
The Apostolic Nunciature expressed “gratitude to Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira for his generous and dedicated service during these twenty-three years as the Bishop of Kabale (2003–2026).”
