The April 2, 2026, attack, which involved the strangulation and stabbing of the toddlers, whom neighbors recall as “joyful souls, full of promise and laughter” has left the lakeside neighborhood in deep mourning.
The young victims, all aged between two and three years, have been identified as Eteku Gideon (2), Kaise Alungat (2), Ignatius Sserwange (3), and Ryan Odeke (2).
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered that Onyum be tried within the very community where the crime occurred, ensuring that residents witness justice firsthand.
Meanwhile, the judiciary, Uganda Police, and other security agencies have confirmed that the community-based court proceedings will be held in open view at the church grounds.
The emerged medical report for the suspect has found him to be of sound mind, despite his claims of a history of mental illness.
Reliable sources allege that the suspect was found in possession of two American passports, two mobile phones, two laptops, a U.S. driving permit, a medical sanity report, and a certificate of good conduct.
The community-led trial, if realized, is expected to serve both as a legal proceeding and a public reckoning for the shocking crime that has devastated the Ggaba neighborhood.
