The deceased has been identified as Namanya Venture, 30, a resident of Nyamabale Cell in Muhanga Ward, Muhanga Town Council. The fatal incident occurred at Kanyabwera’s roofing site, within the town.

According to reliable reports, the young laborer met his untimely death when he accidentally brushed against a live, exposed electricity wire while working on the roof. The high-voltage surge killed him on the spot.

Members of the public initially rushed him to Rotom Health Unit, but he was already dead. Police later took custody of the body and conveyed it to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Following the heartbreaking incident, Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the deceased.

SP Tumushime urgently appealed to the public to exercise extreme vigilance and maintain a safe distance from all electricity lines when undertaking construction, roofing, or any related activities.

He further encouraged property owners to engage only qualified and licensed electricians for all electrical installations and repairs to ensure safety standards are strictly met.

“We caution all citizens to treat electricity lines with the utmost respect and to avoid any form of contact. Furthermore, property owners must desist from engaging unqualified persons for electrical works. Safety is a shared responsibility,” SP Tumushime stated.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that investigations into the precise circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are actively ongoing, with further details expected as inquiries progress.
