“My visits to all the units are part of my responsibility as a commander to know where my officers and men are, know you physically, and understand the real situation on the ground,” Brig Gen Hyeroba said.

He encouraged officers to maintain good civil-military relations, cooperate with sister security agencies against cattle rustlers and other criminals, and uphold the UPDF’s core values of patriotism, loyalty, discipline and courage.
Accompanied by brigade and battalion commanders, Brig Gen Hyeroba attributed Karamoja’s ongoing development to the prevailing peace and urged troops to remain vigilant in protecting the hard-won gains.
“The peace we enjoy today is the foundation upon which Karamoja’s development is being built. It is your duty to safeguard it,” he told the soldiers.
Operation Usalama Kwa Wote, Swahili for “Peace for All,” is a joint security operation involving the UPDF and other security agencies aimed at disarmament, curbing cattle rustling, and restoring stability in the Karamoja sub-region.
The UPDF has in recent years credited sustained security operations with a significant reduction in armed rustling incidents, improved road safety, and the gradual return of normal economic activity across the region.
The visit to the troops signals the army’s renewed emphasis on professionalism, community engagement, and the protection of peace dividends as Karamoja continues its journey toward lasting stability and development.
