RUKIGA – The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has encouraged parents to take up the mantle of spiritual mentorship, guiding their children toward a steadfast faith in God.

The event, held on Sunday, began with a reverent service at All Saints Church Muhanga, followed by a vibrant luncheon at Satellite Hotel in Muhanga Town Council, drawing dignitaries and faithful congregants from different corners.
Addressing the assembled congregation, Bishop Akanjuna underscored the immense power parents hold in shaping their children’s futures, noting that the values instilled early inevitably take root and flourish over time.
He reminded families that the sacred duty of parenthood extends beyond character formation to eternal destiny, urging them to raise their children in godly fear and steadfast faith that withstands the pressures of a changing world.
“The destiny of a child is written in the home. Whatever a parent plants in a child today is what the world will harvest tomorrow. Proverbs 22:6 of the Holy Bible states: ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.’ Parents, you carry the divine responsibility to shape your children in the fear of the Lord,” Bishop Akanjuna charged.
Speaker Oscar Akampurira, the son-in-law to Bishop Akanjuna, expressed profound gratitude to dignitaries and attendees for their overwhelming support, noting that the love and solidarity shown testified to the unifying power of faith and family.
He acknowledged that the baptism had demonstrated the community’s love and followership, pledging to remain a unifying figure in the region, inspired by the collective spirit on display.
“I am deeply moved by the recognition and affection you have shown us today. This thanksgiving and baptism has clearly demonstrated the love and followership that binds our community together,” said Oscar Akampurira.
Rev. Canon Luben Beinomugisha, who was honored to serve as one of the godly parents for young Akamumpa Purity Bethan, spoke on the sacred duty of raising a child in the faith.
He commended Speaker Oscar and his wife Caroline for entrusting him with such a crucial role, pledging to give his utmost to the spiritual upbringing of the child.
“The responsibility to guide a child in faith is not one to be taken lightly. It is a profound privilege. I am grateful to the Akampurira family for their trust, and I vow to fulfill this calling with dedication,” Rev. Canon Luben remarked.
The function was a resplendent affair, graced by a constellation of prominent leaders, including the Rukiga Woman MP, Hon. Sylvia Alinaitwe, and the Rukiga County MP, Hon. Kiconco Patrick Kataabazi.
The event also saw a strong turnout of political leaders, technical staff members, and local dignitaries, a poignant reminder of the community’s collective faith and the enduring role of the church in shaping the moral and spiritual compass of the nation.
