RUBIRIZI – Katunguru Health Centre III has been celebrated for its remarkable turnaround in service delivery, patient care, and community outreach in Rubirizi District.

The event saw health workers, local leaders, and support staff receive certificates of recognition, alongside pledges of additional gifts and continued support to sustain the facility’s high-performance trajectory.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Aidah Nankynga, the Rubirizi District Health Officer, noted that the awards are part of a strategic initiative to motivate health workers toward sustained excellence.
“We are not just giving out certificates; we are recognizing a culture of discipline and results. Today, we celebrate Katunguru HC III because they have shown what is possible when health workers commit to their patients. We promise more workshops to further improve their performance evaluation and leadership skills,” Dr. Nankynga said.
Dr. James Mbusa, the In-Charge of Katunguru Health Centre III, attributed the facility’s success to teamwork, discipline, commitment, hard work, respect, and professionalism.
The facility’s In-Charge further stated that these values enabled them to perform well last year and pledged to keep improving service delivery to every patient.
“Teamwork, discipline, commitment, hard work, respect, and professionalism have been our pillars. These values enabled us to perform well last year. We pledge to keep improving service delivery to every patient who walks through our doors,” Dr. Mbusa stated.
He also revealed that health workers partnered with local leaders to mobilize even hard-to-reach groups like fishermen and traders to prioritize their health and access government services.
Mpola Justus, a recognized staff member, thanked the Government of Uganda and the Rubirizi District Health Department for building their capacity.
Mpola noted that good leadership, time management, committed staff, teamwork, customer care, and open communication with patients were the pillars that turned their facility around.
“Good leadership, time management, and committed staff helped us improve. We focused on teamwork, customer care, and open communication with patients. These are the pillars that turned our facility around,” Mpola noted.
He highlighted key achievements including over 75 HIV-positive patients managed monthly, more than 30 admissions per week, over five weekly baby deliveries, and community outreaches that encouraged more residents to return for care.
Kabagambe Gonzaga, Chairperson of Katunguru Village, thanked the government for bringing health services closer to the people, particularly fishermen and traders operating on Lake Edward and Lake George.
“Our people face frequent illnesses and accidents. This health centre has helped us immensely by providing first aid kits and immediate care. We thank Katunguru health workers and the District Health Department for ensuring the community gets good government health services without frustration,” Kabagambe said.
He called on fellow leaders and residents to continue visiting the facility for regular check-ups and asked the government to expand the facility’s infrastructure to meet growing demand.
Staff and district leaders pledged to sustain the momentum as Katunguru Health Centre III, with certificates awarded and community trust rebuilt, stands as a beacon of consistent public service commitment in rural Uganda.
