RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District have launched a full-scale investigation into the untimely and mysterious death of an elderly man, whose lifeless body was discovered under unclear circumstances.

The deceased’s son accounts that his late father was last seen alive on Monday at approximately 10:00 PM at Omusitego Trading Centre. It is believed he returned home shortly after, only to be found lifeless inside his house.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, told this reporter that officers from Kebisoni Post responded swiftly to the scene, meticulously processing the area for forensic evidence before officially documenting the incident.
The Police Spokesperson added that the body was subsequently conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III, where a postmortem examination is expected to establish the definitive cause of death.
SP Tumushime further passionately appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement and provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects in the ongoing investigation.
“We are urgently appealing to members of the public to come forward with any credible information that could significantly assist us in tracing and apprehending the suspects behind this heinous act,” SP Tumushime stated.
While the police have yet to release further details regarding the nature of the scene or possible motives, they have confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide investigation.
