The deceased has been identified as Zibahurire Peter, also known as Kamugisha, a resident of Murandamo “A” Cell, Rubumba Parish, Kahungye Sub-county, Kabale District.

Reliable sources indicate that the deceased’s lifeless body was discovered in a room he had secured at 3:00 PM on Monday, May 4th, 2026, at Manhattan Hotel in Kabale Municipality.

Sources further indicate that the deceased checked into the hotel, explaining to staff that he needed to rest for the night after visiting Kabale Regional Hospital to collect his medication.

The deceased allegedly told the staff that he did not receive the medicine on the day of his arrival and was reportedly to return the next morning, a situation that prompted him to secure lodging at the hotel.

The grim discovery was made early this morning when the hotel receptionist, during a normal routine checkup, established that the deceased’s hired room door was not locked.

The receptionist entered the room and found the dead body of Kamugisha lying on the bed. She then alerted the hotel manager about the discovery.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident. He stated that the police at Kabale Central Police station responded swiftly, and officers visited the scene alongside the police surgeon.

Maate added that a postmortem examination was conducted on the body to establish the definitive cause of death, and the body is yet to be handed over to his grieving relatives for a decent burial.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that inquiries into the incident are still underway as they await further details, including the final postmortem report.
