KABALE. Renowned Radio Presenter Rodgers Asiimwe, popularly known as Obwengula International, has joined Hills FM Radio Station in Kabale District.

In a phone interview, Hills FM Station Manager Mr. Joel Tugeine confirmed that Rodgers Obwengula is their latest recruit and part of their strategy to enhance their news and entertainment broadcasts.
“Rodgers is undoubtedly a well-informed radio personality, and we plan to leverage his skills in the news and information sector” he stated.
Mr. Tugeine, who also doubles as a program presenter and music producer known as Uncle Nature, added that the new presenter’s arrival would strengthen the station’s marketing strategies. He explained that Obwengula moved to Hills FM with a number of clients.
“His program already had business advertisements even before he officially started because he came with his clients,” said Tugeine.
Speaking to this website, Obwengula expressed optimism about joining Hills FM, describing it as one of the biggest media houses in Western Uganda, with a broadcast range covering most of Kigezi and Ankole regions, along with a remarkable digital presence. He said that employing him is a mark of confidence in his experience and ability to deliver quality and impactful program presentations.
“Hills FM presents a great opportunity for me to reach the urban community and maximize my impact by providing timely, quality information as I continue to build my brand and that of the radio station,” he said.

Obwengula explained that his program, Ensi Nebirikutangaza, would primarily focus on science and technology. Occasionally, he would also share updates on current international conflicts, particularly highlighting the use of new technology.
“These wars directly or indirectly affect all of us, and it’s important for people to understand their impact on the global economy, security, environment, and health,” he emphasized, referencing ongoing conflicts in Iran, Ukraine, and Gaza, which have led to rising fuel prices.

Born in Ruborogota Sub-county, Isingiro District, Rodgers Asiimwe Obwengula has become one of the voices shaping Western Uganda’s media industry with a fresh touch of elegance and flair, building a significant local fan base for his radio programs. He has previously worked with Mbarara-based radio stations Grace Radio and Link FM, as well as Rukiga FM in Rukiga District, and with Freedom Radio and K-town Radio in Kabale District.
However, Obwengula’s radio career is not without challenges. Despite his popularity and a large following in Western Uganda, he has been at the centre of several legal battles involving politicians and religious leaders who accused him of targeted attacks during politically charged radio programs. He has appeared multiple times before the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and faced disciplinary actions over controversial content.
When asked about this, Hills FM Station Manager Joel Tugeine said that the station had extensively discussed the matter with Obwengula, and they had agreed to uphold professionalism and keep controversial issues out of his science and technology-focused program.
“If he wishes to address other media issues, especially politics for which he is known as a radio personality, he has been advised to use personal platforms such as social media,” Tugeine explained. “On radio, he will focus solely on topics within his program script to avoid trouble.”
Hills FM broadcasting on 100.4 FM, Kabale, unveiled Rodgers Asiimwe Obwengula as their new Member of Staff on May 4, 2026, a day after Uganda joined the rest of the world to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day. On the same day, he did his first Radio Show (Ensi Nebirikutangaza ) that ran for two hours, starting at exactly 8:00 PM.
