The legislator’s commitment was delivered by Haji Muhammad Gumisiriza during the Juma prayers last Friday at Kyambura mosque in Rubirizi District.

Delivering Buturo’s remarks, Haji Muhammad assured worshippers of the MP-elect’s readiness to meet Muslim leaders, provide funding, and work with them towards constructing a new and expanded place of worship.

Muslim leaders highlighted the mosque’s poor state and the community’s struggle to rebuild, while worshippers expressed fears that its demolition would harm their religious life and social cohesion.

Mwarimu Juma, Chairperson of the Kyambura Muslim Community, emphasized the mosque’s critical condition and its central role in shaping spiritual growth, especially for the youth.

He urged for its preservation and reconstruction, stating that demolition would be unjust and cause undue hardship to the community.

“The mosque is currently in a critical condition. We believe the demolition is unjust and will cause hardship. This mosque plays a central role in shaping spiritual growth, especially for our youth. We urge its preservation and reconstruction so we may continue to gather for prayers and religious activities,” Juma stated.

Sheikh Manisuri Siwatu, Chairperson of the Rubirizi District Muslim Community, highlighted that the Kyambura Muslim community has grown to over 1,000 members and is now struggling to accommodate worshippers.

He expressed a clear willingness to collaborate with authorities to find a lasting solution to the pressing need for adequate facilities.

Sheikh Siwatu also urged calm within the community, assuring them of his close cooperation with MP-Elect Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo and other local leaders to resolve the issue.

In his delivered message, Hon. Cadet Benjamin Buturo acknowledged the challenges faced by the community and promised to work with them to find a sustainable solution, including identifying potential funders for a new mosque.

“Hon. Cadet has heard your concerns and is committed to ensuring your place of worship is not only protected but also improved to serve the growing community,” said Haji Muhammad Gumisiriza.

The move has been welcomed as a positive step toward interfaith cooperation and responsive leadership, with many hoping for a swift and inclusive resolution to preserve the community’s religious and social fabric.
