Minister Babalanda Sets Record Straight on RDCs’ Political Aspirations

Kampala, Uganda – The Minister for Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, has issued a statement to clarify rumors circulating online regarding President Yoweri Museveni’s stance on Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and other officials contesting for political offices.

According to Minister Babalanda, President Museveni has not issued any directive stopping RDCs, Deputy RDCs, Resident City Commissioners, or Assistant RDCs/RCCs from standing for any political office.

Via her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Babalanda emphasized that the President has not held any meeting to instruct anyone to desist from contesting.

“The President hasn’t stopped any RDC/DRDC/RCC/DRCC or Assistant RDC/RCC from standing for any political office. It’s everybody’s constitutional right to contest for a position as long as they follow the law,” Minister Babalanda stated.

She added that the Presidency has only provided guidance to RDCs on how to comply with the law, and she hopes that those interested in contesting have done so accordingly.

Minister Babalanda urged the public to disregard the rumors circulating online, emphasizing that everyone has the right to participate in the political process as long as they adhere to the constitutional requirements.

The clarification aims to put to rest speculation and misinformation regarding the President’s stance on the matter, ensuring that all eligible individuals can exercise their constitutional rights without undue influence or misinformation.
