RUKUNGIRI – The Rukungiri Livestock Breeders and Food Security Cooperative Society (LIB4SECS) has unveiled a new tractor and implement set, a game-changing asset set to modernize farming across the district.

LIB4SECS Board Chairman Samuel Ahabwe addressed the gathering with deep emotion, describing the tractor handover as a hard-won milestone born from years of unity, shared vision, and the collective resolve of every member.
He called the machine a true lifeline for the community, one that will enable farmers to prepare their land on time, drastically cut expensive labor costs, improve transport efficiency, and significantly reduce post-harvest losses that have long drained family incomes.
“Today is not just about receiving a tractor. It is a celebration of vision, partnership, and the power of cooperation. This machine is a lifeline; it will enable our farmers to prepare their land on time,” Ahabwe declared.
Ahabwe revealed that the cooperative plans to grow into a full farmer-owned institution with milk centres, a processing plant, animal feed production, artificial insemination (AI) services, and savings facilities.
He applauded the Government of Uganda, the Microfinance Support Centre, and the Islamic Development Bank for their support, and urged members to care for the tractor while calling on youth to embrace modern farming for wealth creation.
Leaders urged farmers to treat the tractor with great care and responsibility, emphasizing that it belongs to the entire community. They also called on the youth to embrace modern, technology-driven farming as a path to wealth and sustainability.
Both local leaders and farmers alike hailed the initiative as a game-changer, noting that the tractor will enable LIB4SECS members to cultivate larger lands faster, plant with precision, and harvest with less waste.
The new machinery is expected to directly boost food security and household incomes across Rukungiri, marking a fresh chapter of progress and hope for the district’s farming community.
