A serious single-vehicle accident occurred at around 10:50 AM today Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in Chanakye, Kanaba Sub-county, Kisoro district.

The bus, driven by Owoyesigire Julius, 40, a resident of Ntungamo district, was traveling from Kabale to Kisoro with 60 passengers on board.

As it approached the Chanakye red corner, the driver lost control, and the bus overturned, injuring 18 passengers.

According to the Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the police responded promptly to the scene, and the victims were taken to different clinics and hospitals for treatment.

Among the injured passengers, 15 sustained minor injuries, while 3 suffered serious injuries, with the primary cause of the accident attributed to brake failure and speed.

This accident follows another tragic road accident involving a bus of the same company, Scania bus UBM 707X, which lost control in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga district, on Sunday last week.

The bus hit a water trench and overturned, injuring some passengers and a pedestrian. According to the police report, 11 people were injured, and the bus is currently parked at Rukiga Central Police Station pending inspection.

Elly Maate confirmed that the Scania bus involved in the latest accident was towed and parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection, as the investigation is ongoing.
