According to the latest statistics, motorcyclists and pedestrians account for 34% and 31% of total fatalities, respectively.

In a recent operation, the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety apprehended a total of 770 motorcycle riders for various offenses, including 418 without crash helmets, 229 without riding licenses, 91 without insurance policies, and 32 for pillion riding violations.

Additionally, 91 drivers were arrested for driving without valid licenses, including 47 with out-of-class licenses, 31 with expired licenses, and 13 without licenses.

Traffic Police Spokesperson Michael Kananura confirmed these statistics and urged all road users to prioritize safety and follow traffic rules.

Kananura emphasized the importance of road safety and encouraged all road users to observe traffic rules to prevent further accidents.

“We’ve seen a notable reduction in road fatalities this week compared to last week. However, motorcyclists and pedestrians remain the most vulnerable, accounting for 34% and 31% of total fatalities. We urge all road users to prioritize safety and follow traffic rules,” Said Michael Kananura.

Michael Kananura further said that the Traffic Police will continue to implement targeted enforcement measures and awareness campaigns focused on vulnerable groups, including motorcyclists and pedestrians.
