The legislator made the remarks during the closure of an induction training for newly elected councillors from nine sub-counties and town councils in Ruhaama County, Ntungamo District.
The leaders’ induction training was successfully held at St. Stephen’s Church of Uganda, Ruhaama Archdeaconry, bringing together councillors for a session focused on strengthening their leadership skills.
Rwakimaari urged the leaders to put aside political differences arising from the recent elections and focus on working together to improve social services in their respective areas.
The legislator also urged councillors to work closely with their area Members of Parliament, describing MPs as cooks and local government leaders as servers and implementers responsible for ensuring that services reach the people.
Meanwhile, Ketty Gafa, an Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Local Government, commended Parliament for securing and approving 12 billion shillings for the induction of newly elected political leaders, particularly councillors across the country.
Gafa said the first phase of the training covers 35 districts, including Kisoro, Rubanda, Mitooma, Kabale and Ntungamo, adding that the second phase will be scheduled later.
She explained that the training is intended to improve service delivery in local governments by equipping councillors with knowledge of their roles, responsibilities and rules of procedure.
Ntungamo District Speaker Bernard Ahabwe Mupenda said the training was essential because councillors play a critical role in implementing government programmes at the grassroots.
He commended the councillors for attending the sessions and urged them to put the knowledge acquired into practice.
Ruhaama Sub-county Chairperson Ipolito Kinyata thanked the organisers and the government for providing the training opportunity.
