FORT PORTAL – The revered King of the Tooro Kingdom, His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has officially been confirmed dead at the age of 34, after a protracted battle with cancer-related illnesses.

The official confirmation, which has plunged the entire Kingdom into profound grief, follows the passing of Omukama Oyo, who departed on the evening of August 27, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m. in America.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening. ‘Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire,'” the official statement reads.
Born on April 16, 1992, King Oyo ascended to the throne at just three years old in 1995, following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. His coronation made him the world’s youngest reigning monarch, a title he held with dignity and grace as he grew into his role.
Throughout his reign, King Oyo navigated the delicate balance between tradition and modernity, earning respect as a unifying figure who preserved the cultural heritage of the Tooro people while embracing the changing times.
Rwomire, the Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, has since called upon the people of Tooro to remain united and prayerful during this somber hour, while affirming that the Crown’s continuity is secured.
The Prime Minister added that the late King Oyo leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be revealed in keeping with the time-honored traditions of the Tooro Kingdom.
“The continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom,” PM Rwomire assured.
Meanwhile, the Government of Uganda has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Tooro, joining the nation in mourning a leader whose influence transcended the boundaries of his kingdom.
Reports from Ugandan media, citing family sources, indicate the monarch succumbed to cancer while in the United States, though the kingdom had urged calm and discouraged speculation.
The nation now joins Tooro in solidarity as mourning preparations begin, with funeral details to be unveiled soon to honor the late monarch with due reverence.
