“It Was a Political Hit Job” – Blogger Rogers Obwengura Implicates Kabale Mayor After Panga Attack

Whistleblower blogger Rogers Asiimwe survived a brutal panga attack in Kabale on Wednesday night, and from his hospital bed, he is pointing squarely at the municipality's mayor. Asiimwe, who had just finished his radio show, was ambushed by two men who reportedly chanted about his opposition to Mayor Sentaro Byamugisha while inflicting deep wounds that exposed bone and severed muscles. Police have opened case SD REF 40/27/8/2026, but Asiimwe, citing fears of local meddling, has made an urgent appeal to President Museveni and the CDF to ensure justice is served.

KABALE – Noted Kabale-based senior blogger and whistleblower Rogers Asiimwe has finally broken his silence following a harrowing attack by panga-wielding assailants that nearly cost him his life.

Asiimwe, widely recognized as Obwengura International, fell victim to an attack by unknown assailants on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, just moments after wrapping up his radio show on Hills FM in Kabale.

Following the attack, Rogers was later taken to a facility that has not been publicly disclosed due to heightened security protocols, after suffering severe lacerations and multiple injuries to his body.

Speaking exclusively from his hospital bed, Rogers recounted hiring a boda boda to his Kekubo residence, but as he dismounted to pay, two panga-wielding men who had trailed him launched a vicious assault.

The assailants then turned on his head, and though he raised his arm to shield himself, they inflicted deep lacerations to his elbow, severing muscles and exposing bone in the brutal onslaught.

“I noticed the men removing pangas from inside their jackets. One attempted to strike my neck, but I dodged and fell to the ground. They continued targeting my head, and I raised my arm to protect myself. They cut me deeply at the elbow, damaging my muscles and bone,” Rogers recounted.

Rogers has directly implicated Kabale Municipality Mayor Sentaro Byamugisha, contending that the assault was punishment for his unwavering anti-corruption crusade, with attackers chanting about his opposition to the mayor during the onslaught.

“This was not a random attack; this was a political hit job ordered to silence me. My attackers kept shouting, ‘What do you want from Sentaro? Why are you against our mayor?’ several times. I am directly pointing a finger at Kabale Municipality Mayor Sentaro Byamugisha. This is a reprisal for my relentless reporting on alleged corruption and mismanagement within the municipality,” Rogers noted.

Consequently, Byamugisha has emerged as the primary suspect, particularly in light of Asiimwe’s recent revelations exposing graft and administrative malfeasance in Kabale Municipality.

Rogers Asiimwe has admitted to facing persistent intimidation from several district, political, and municipal leaders, prompting him to seek protection from Minister Barugahara just last week as he prepared to present corruption evidence to authorities.

Following the attack, he was rushed to Medicus Healthcare for emergency treatment but has since been referred to Mbarara Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Despite his ordeal, Asiimwe has commended the Kabale security team, led by Rtd. Major Katamba, the District RDC, for their swift intervention upon receiving the news.

Citing fears of local meddling, he has urgently appealed to President Museveni, the CDF, and the Ministry of Local Government to personally ensure the attackers are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, Kabale Municipality Mayor Sentaro Byamugisha has declined to comment on the attack, stating that the matter is now under police investigation.

Police have since opened an assault case under SD REF 40/27/8/2026 and have promised to thoroughly investigate the circumstances, identify the perpetrators, and determine the motive behind the attack.
