The ceremony, presided over by Chief Magistrate Barigye Said of the Bushenyi Court Circuit, officially ushered in a leadership team that promised transparency, accountability, and a fierce war on graft.
During the council session, Hon. Banyanga Silagi, Councillor for Ishaka Division, was elected the district Speaker and will be deputized by Hon. Arinaitwe Martin, who is the Male Youth Councillor.
Meanwhile, Chairperson Prosper nominated Hon. Edward Mpairwe Mpabwa as Vice Chairman, along with several secretaries, including Tumwijukye Didas (Finance and Administration), Namusoke Saudah (Production, Works and Technical Services), and Kyomuhendo Sylivia (Social Services).
The district governor made it clear that he did not seek votes for selfish reasons. Instead, he promised to serve all people honestly, with all his heart, and without any secret deals or conditions.
Prosper identified corruption as a major problem in local governments and warned those who have enabled or supported corrupt acts in the past to stop completely while he is in charge.
The Chairperson also directed his executive secretaries to avoid corruption and all bad practices that could slow down or block the delivery of essential services to local communities.
“I did not seek this office for personal gain. The people of Bushenyi trusted me with their votes, and I will serve them with a clean heart and no hidden conditions. Let me be clear: corruption has been a cancer in our local governments, but under my watch, those who have enabled or supported these shameless acts must stop completely,” Prosper noted.
Twebaze Prosper secured a resounding electoral victory, defeating his rival, Jaffari Bassajabalaba, by a staggering margin, garnering 66,101 votes (86.2%) against Bassajabalaba’s 10,597 votes (13.8%).
Following a primary upset that reshaped the district’s political landscape, the incumbent formally stepped aside in favor of Prosper’s candidacy, a move that consolidated support and paved the way for his decisive win.
