RUBANDA – Police have cautioned that fatigue remains a silent killer on the roads, urging long-distance drivers to rest adequately before every trip to safeguard themselves and all fellow road users.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The stern caution was issued by the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, following a devastating serious morning road crash along the busy Kabale-Kisoro highway.
The accident, which left two unidentified persons with serious injuries, occurred at Karengeri in Muko Sub-county, Rubanda District, after two vehicles traveling from opposite directions collided.
SP Nelson confirmed the vehicles were traveling from opposite directions when the Nissan Pickup (UBK 746P) lost control and collided head-on with the HOWO Truck (KDK 325W/ZD 9216), with the cause still under investigation.
The collision left both vehicles mangled, with debris scattered across the tarmac, while two unidentified victims who were on board sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kisoro Hospital for emergency care.
The Police Spokesperson issued a stern advisory for all road users to obey traffic signs and observe speed limits, citing speeding as a persistent cause of fatal crashes in the area.
He equally cautioned long-distance drivers against fatigue, urging them to rest adequately before journeys to maintain sharp judgment and reaction times.
“Drivers operating on long routes must ensure they get sufficient rest before and during their journeys. Fatigue impairs judgment and reaction time, putting everyone at risk. Drive sober, drive alert,” SP Tumushime cautioned.
Meanwhile, police have launched a full-scale probe into the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision, with detectives already on the ground gathering evidence.
