The announcement was made during a community engagement meeting held on Monday, August 18, 2026, at Kiwatule Central Zone, where residents and local leaders gathered to discuss the ambitious infrastructure project.

Speaking to the residents, Nakawa Division Deputy Mayor Elias Lukwago Musoke outlined the comprehensive scope of the project, which promises to revolutionize travel along the busy route.

“The road will feature pedestrian walkways and street lights on either side, ensuring safety and convenience for all users. We are committed to delivering world-class infrastructure that serves the needs of our people,” Musoke stated.

Musoke appealed to residents and traders to voluntarily cede the right of way, emphasizing that cooperation would be crucial for the project to be completed within the projected 18-month timeline.

DOTT Services Project Manager Eng. Christian Kanyesigye confirmed that the 2.3-kilometre road will span 16 metres in width with a central island separator, a design choice aimed at streamlining traffic flow and enhancing orderliness along the busy corridor.

She added that the design includes covered drainage channels with inspection chambers at selected intervals to ease periodic desilting, alongside features intended to boost trade and maximize safety for travellers and residents.

“The design incorporates covered drainage channels with inspection chambers at selected intervals, which will facilitate periodic desilting and maintenance. This infrastructure is planned not only to boost trade but also to maximize traveller and resident safety and the overall commuting experience,” Kanyesigye explained.

Technical supervision will be provided by MBW Consulting, a firm with proven expertise in infrastructure oversight, to guarantee that the project meets rigorous international engineering standards from inception to completion.

LC 1 Chairperson Paul Kibirige warmly welcomed the long-awaited road upgrade, highlighting its potential to significantly raise property values and attract new investment throughout the neighbourhood.

He also noted that the enhanced infrastructure, complete with reliable street lighting and dedicated pedestrian walkways, would strengthen community security and create a safer environment for all residents and visitors alike.

“This project will significantly improve property values in the neighbourhood. Additionally, the enhanced infrastructure with proper lighting and walkways will boost security, creating a safer environment for our community,” Kibirige observed.

The Ntinda–Kiwatule dual carriageway project represents a significant investment in Kampala’s transport infrastructure, is expected to enhance road safety, and will stimulate economic activity along the corridor.
