KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District have appealed for public help in identifying the lifeless body of an adult female which was recovered from the waters of River Ntungwa in the district.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased was retrieved from the river in Kiruruma Cell, Rushaki Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county, following a phone call from a resident who reported a body floating on the river to the area Chairperson, one Sabit Turyagyenda Julius.
Following a notification on May 17, 2026, at around 8:00 PM, the Chairperson, accompanied by other residents, visited the scene and indeed discovered the decomposing remains of an unknown adult female.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that the matter was immediately reported to police, after which officers swiftly responded to the scene of crime, documented it, and examined it.
The body was subsequently retrieved from the water and conveyed to Kambuga Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Maate has asked anyone who has lost a female relative or neighbor in recent days to visit Kambuga Hospital mortuary for possible identification, after which the body will be released to the family for a decent burial.
Police inquiries are ongoing to identify the deceased, and the public is encouraged to share any helpful information with the nearest police station to help close the case.
