A fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:40 AM involving a motor vehicle, UA 889AM, and a pedestrian. Preliminary findings indicate the driver was traveling at high speed when he struck the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the road.

The impact caused the driver to lose control, forcing the vehicle to veer off the road, crash into the bridge, and plunge into River Malaba below.

The incident resulted in the deaths of the pedestrian and three passengers, while 13 others, including the driver, sustained injuries.

The Uganda Police Traffic Directorate spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, stated that emergency teams rushed the injured to Tororo Hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary for postmortem examinations.

SP Kananura confirmed that the vehicle (UA 889AM) has been towed to Busia Police Station as investigations into the fatal crash begin.

He urged motorists to observe speed limits and yield to pedestrians, particularly in high-traffic areas, to prevent future tragedies.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a swift recovery. Such accidents are avoidable if road users adhere to traffic regulations,” Kananura stated.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, with further updates expected soon.
