The suspect, Biira Doreen, 28, is allegedly linked to Dalton Masereka’s disappearance on May 12, 2025.

According to Dalton’s father, Edward Muhindo, his son vanished after being accused of stealing two chicks belonging to their neighbor, Biira Doreen, who allegedly fined the victim Ugx 77,000.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed the arrest and stated that a joint team has been formed to search for Dalton.

He assured the public that investigations are ongoing and urged residents to remain calm, emphasizing that the suspect is under police supervision and efforts are being made to locate Dalton.

This case is part of a disturbing trend of missing children in the region, with approximately four cases reported since April 2025, including Dalton’s disappearance.

Another notable case is that of Mumbere Kismart, a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler who went missing on April 4, 2025.

Morian Mbambu, 20, was arrested and remanded to Mubuku Government Prisons in Kasese in connection with Kismart’s disappearance, but her release on bond sparked outrage among residents who protested and demanded her re-arrest.

The cases of missing children in Kasese have raised concerns about child safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in the region.
