KANUNGU – The Kanungu District Secondary Schools Headteachers’ Association (KADISHA) has issued an immediate directive for the temporary suspension of all co-curricular activities in Term Two of 2026 due to the Ebola outbreak.

The directive, communicated in a circular addressed to all secondary school headteachers by KADISHA Chairperson Ms. Nakanwagi Sauda, follows stringent guidelines from the Ministries of Health and Education & Sports.

According to the directive, effective immediately, all mass gatherings, including school-organized events held outside school premises, are halted until further notice.

KADISHA also directed that all games and sports involving physical contact, such as football, basketball, wrestling, inter-school competitions, athletics, and PE drills, be suspended indefinitely.

Visiting days, parents’ days, and large staff meetings are similarly stopped. However, where unavoidable, such gatherings may be held in small groups with strict social distancing.

While classes will continue as normal, KADISHA has mandated strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, including daily temperature screening and handwashing at all school entry points.

Any learner or staff member presenting symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding must be isolated immediately, and health authorities notified without delay.

Schools have been directed to enforce hygiene protocols, including no sharing of utensils or personal items, while intensifying health education and awareness campaigns on Ebola prevention across all school communities.

Nakanwagi warned that the measures are non-negotiable and purely protective for learners and staff, as advised by health professionals. She added that any school found violating the directive will face disciplinary action.

“Any school found violating this directive will face disciplinary action by the KADISHA Disciplinary Committee,” Nakanwagi reiterated.

The association has pledged to communicate updates on the suspension as soon as they receive new guidance from the Ministry of Health, while urging all schools to remain vigilant and cooperative.
