RUKUNGIRI – The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, has called upon Christians to take an active role in the fight against poverty through coffee farming, business ventures, and other income-generating activities.

The two-day event commenced on Thursday with an overnight prayer service and concluded with fasting and prayers.
In his sermon, the Bishop anchored his message on three pillars of faith, urging Christians to believe in God, work hard to improve their livelihoods, and avoid acts that could negatively impact their lives.
He encouraged the faithful to seize available opportunities, particularly coffee growing and small-scale businesses, as practical pathways out of poverty.

The Bishop also addressed the fear of curses, referring Christians to Galatians 3:13, which declares that Christ redeemed believers from the curse. He emphasized that Christians should place their trust in God rather than living in fear, assuring them that God cares for their needs.

Speaking at the same uplifting and spirit-filled event, Jimrex Byamugisha passionately called for continued, unwavering trust in God, especially when facing life’s inevitable and often daunting challenges.
Byamugisha also addressed parents on the significance of naming children, urging them to choose names that reflect the character and future they desire for their children.

The diocesan prayer and fasting programme brought Christians together in prayer, reflection, and teachings on faith and everyday life, reinforcing the church’s role in both spiritual and socio-economic transformation.
