The three-day workshop, running from November 12 to 14, 2025, at Queen Elizabeth National Park, brings together District Communications Officers from across the country.

The initiative is a key partnership between the Government of Uganda and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), designed to leverage local government communicators to promote Uganda’s attractions and manage information during emergencies.

This training highlights the government’s commitment to using effective communication as a critical tool for protecting Uganda’s tourism reputation.

By fostering closer coordination between district officials and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the initiative ensures a swift and unified response to potential crises.

On-the-ground communicators have been highlighted as vital for countering negative narratives and providing timely, factual information to maintain global confidence in Uganda as a safe destination.

UWA’s Director of Communications, Hangi Bashir, emphasized the importance of accurate reporting to protect the sector’s integrity.

He clarified that the authority works closely with authorized media to ensure responsible coverage during crises.

He confirmed that the policy is a key part of Uganda’s proactive strategy to transform its international image into that of a thriving and secure must-visit destination.

“To protect our economy’s cornerstone, we are committed to ensuring that crises are reported on accurately and responsibly as we work to shift Uganda’s status to a thriving, must-visit hub,” said Hangi Bashir.

The capacity-building exercise marks a significant step in proactively managing the nation’s brand, ensuring that the story of Uganda’s stunning biodiversity and warm hospitality continues to be told accurately and positively to the world.

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA):

UWA is a government agency responsible for the management and protection of Uganda’s wildlife both inside and outside protected areas.

The agency’s mission is to conserve and sustainably manage the wildlife and biological diversity of Uganda for the benefit of the people of Uganda and the global community.
