RUBIRIZI, UGANDA – Police in Rubirizi District have issued a stern warning to residents against domestic violence, drug abuse, theft, and the dangers of spreading witchcraft rumours in the community.

The warning was delivered by the Rubirizi Police Liaison Officer, AIP Twesigye Caleb, during a security and public awareness meeting aimed at promoting a collective mindset change to foster a safer and more secure environment.

At the centre of the meeting, held on Monday in Busingo Village, Mushumba Parish, Officer Caleb emphasized that community policing is critical for preventing crime, building strong public-police relationships, and upholding human rights.

“Community policing is not just about preventing crimes; it is about building a strong relationship between the public and the police to solve problems together while upholding human rights,” Caleb stated.

Lilian Mugume, the Officer-in-Charge of Ryeru Sub-county Police Station, reaffirmed their commitment to building a strong community partnership through continued public sensitization.

The officer further encouraged parents to exercise heightened vigilance over their children during the upcoming long holiday and current political season.

“We pledge to foster a safe society and warn that a child’s involvement in political violence or substance abuse carries severe legal consequences,” cautioned Officer Lilian.

The LC I Chairperson for Busingo Village, Tibereba Silver, said that the meeting was aimed at enhancing grassroots security coordination between the public and the police.

He added that the partnership was highlighted as essential for improving emergency response, preventing crime, and building a safer community for everyone.

The meeting concluded with a unified call for residents to work hand-in-hand with security organs and local leadership to maintain law and order.
