KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Uganda Police Force has warned campaigning political actors and their supporters to comply with traffic laws, stating that irresponsible road use will not be tolerated and will be met with strict enforcement.

The warning follows a tragic road crash that occurred on Monday, September 29, 2025, at around 11:30 AM, along the Kalagi to Kayunga Road near Namyoya Village. The incident left six people critically injured and fighting for their lives in the hospital.

Some of the injured motorcycle riders and passengers include Kewanza Bashir, 27; Kakaire Bashir, 35; Ssepereza Musa, 40; Kisomba Michael, 28, from Nansana; Ssewaya Eric, 23; and Mutagubya Robert, 24, who are currently admitted at St. Francis Naggalama Hospital.

The accident involved motorcycles and vehicles escorting the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential aspirant, Honourable Kyagulanyi Sentamu.

Sources indicate that a motorcycle in the convoy, traveling at high speed, collided with a vehicle from behind, triggering a chain reaction where multiple motorcycles crashed into one another. Subsequently, a white Mitsubishi UAZ 064H, displaying images of the aspirant, also collided with the motorcycles involved in the crash.

The Traffic Police Spokesperson, Michael Kananura, confirmed the accident and stated that the vehicles and motorcycles with registration numbers UFQ 569H, UGH 892B, UEK 351T, UFQ 250Q, among others, were removed from the scene to Naggalama Police Station.

Kananura warned that political activities which risk public safety, such as placing aspirants’ photos in the middle of the road, will not be tolerated, and that strict measures will be enforced to ensure adherence to the law.

“We issue a strong warning to all political actors to comply with traffic laws. Irresponsible road use, as demonstrated by this incident which caused multiple injuries, will not be tolerated. The Police will enforce strict measures to ensure adherence to the law,” said Michael Kananura.

The accident occurred at a time when presidential candidates are traversing the country to solicit people’s trust, following several campaigns launched on Monday, September 29, 2025, ahead of the 2026 general elections.
