Speaker Among Announces Uganda as Host of East African Games

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Uganda will host this year’s East African Games, as announced by Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among following a high-level regional meeting in Kampala on Tuesday, aimed at bolstering regional cooperation.

The tripartite meeting brought together Speaker Among, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, and the Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana.

At the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, leaders gathered for discussions centered on strengthening the East African Community (EAC), with a core focus on the critical role national legislatures play in driving its integration agenda forward.

The discussions emphasized how parliamentary diplomacy, legislation, and oversight can be harnessed to break down barriers and foster closer political, economic, and social ties among member states.

A key highlight of the meeting was the confirmation of Uganda as the next host nation for the East African Games, with Speaker Among expressing her delight at the opportunity to showcase the nation’s capabilities and hospitality.

“We talked about the upcoming East African Games, and I am pleased to announce that Uganda will host this year’s games. This event will serve as a platform to deepen, widen, and strengthen regional integration,” Speaker Among said.

She positioned the games as a catalyst for unity, friendly competition, and people-to-people connections across East Africa, extending a warm invitation and promising a unique experience.

Hosting a successful games is expected to not only boost Uganda’s profile but also significantly contribute to the EAC’s goal of creating a unified, peaceful, and prosperous region.

The upcoming games, set to commence on December 5th, will see athletes from across East Africa compete in various disciplines, continuing a tradition that celebrates sporting excellence and regional camaraderie.
