KANUNGU, UGANDA – Kanungu District was shattered over the weekend by an act of appalling violence that culminated in the brutal murder of a 30-year-old man, a tragedy sparked by a dispute over two injured goats.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Sorobina Kabangari, a resident of Kyambeya Cell, Muramba Parish, Mpungu Sub-county in Kanungu District, who was killed in a horrific incident that occurred on Sunday, September 14th, 2025.
It is alleged that on that day, Twinomugisha Edisa reported to Kahunyira Nado, the Chairperson of LC II Muramba Parish, that the deceased, Sorobina, had injured her two goats.
The Chairman mobilized locals who arrested Sorobina, and after he confessed to injuring the animals during questioning, they tied him with a rope and escorted him to Mpungu Police Station.
While being escorted past Bagyenyi’s home, the accused revealed that Bagyenyi had provided the panga used in the attack, prompting an enraged Bagyenyi to seize the weapon and deliver multiple fatal blows to the victim’s head, causing immediate death.
Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s body was conveyed to Mpungu Health Center IV for postmortem.
He further emphasized that comprehensive statements had been obtained from material witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the tragic incident.
The LC II Chairperson has since been arrested to aid police investigations, while the key suspect, Bagyenyi, remains on the run as inquiries into the fatal vigilante attack continue.
