The event, organized by Ankole Diocese, marked the beginning of a transition, as Archbishop Kaziimba is scheduled to retire on August 15, 2027, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65.
Preaching to a packed congregation, Archbishop Kaziimba acknowledged the painful reality that many priests and bishops retire with honor yet quietly struggle to sustain themselves and their families.
The Archbishop urged dioceses to invest in sustainable projects that provide financial security and welfare support, enabling retired clergy to live dignified lives after active ministry.
“Many clergy members face significant financial challenges after retirement. Dioceses must invest in sustainable projects that can provide financial security and welfare support, enabling retired clergy to live dignified lives after active ministry,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.
The Archbishop was also publicly commended for his firm stand against homosexuality, his commitment to upholding biblical values, and his role in clearing the Church House debt.
The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa, revealed that the diocese currently provides a monthly allowance of Shs 750,000 to retired bishops as part of its commitment to clergy welfare.
Bishop Mwesigwa, the Dean of the Province of the Church of Uganda, who also oversees the province in the Archbishop’s absence, said the diocese has registered remarkable progress under Dr. Kaziimba’s leadership.
He specifically noted the establishment of Revival Radio, Revival TV, Millennium SACCO, Revival Schools, Revival Coffee, and several commercial buildings in Mbarara City.
Bishop Mwesigwa further commended Archbishop Kaziimba for giving visionary leadership to the House of Bishops by providing guidance on establishing projects for dioceses’ self-sustainability.
“Archbishop Kaziimba has given visionary leadership to the House of Bishops by providing guidance on establishing projects for dioceses’ self-sustainability,” Bishop Mwesigwa said.
Meanwhile, the Christians of Ankole Diocese bid farewell to their Archbishop by presenting him with ten Friesian cows, a valuable and symbolic gift representing sustenance and honor in retirement.
Having joined church ministry in 1985, Archbishop Kaziimba, the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda (appointed March 1, 2020), plans to settle in Mukono after retirement.
Both Archbishop Kaziimba and Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa will retire next year, the Archbishop on August 15, 2027, and Bishop Sheldon on September 29, 2027.
