Jennifer Kalule announced that a total of 1,404,169 learners have so far registered for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
She revealed that PLE has registered 844,341 candidates: 52.6% female and 47.4% male, with 64% sponsored under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme and 36% privately sponsored.
Meanwhile, Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) provisional candidature stands at 401,509, where females again lead at 53.2% compared to 46.8% males.
Government sponsorship under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) programme covers 38% of UCE candidates, while the majority (62%) are privately sponsored.
At the UACE level, 157,319 candidates have registered, including 76,383 females (48.6%) and 80,936 males (51.4%), with 57,933 (37%) sponsored by the government under UPOLET and 99,386 (63%) privately sponsored.
Jennifer Kalule noted that the close of the extended normal registration period for the 2026 national examinations still has just 15 days remaining, ending on June 30th, 2026.
She added that 91.5% of PLE centres have submitted registration data, compared to 76.6% for UCE and 69% for UACE centres. Out of the expected 23,421 centres nationwide, there are 15,999 PLE centres, 4,436 UCE centres, and 2,986 UACE centres.
The board added that late registration will be allowed throughout July but attracts penalties: a 100% surcharge for PLE candidates and 50% for UCE and UACE candidates, with no registrations accepted after July 31st, 2026.
The registration fee structure remains unchanged: PLE at UGX 34,000, UCE at UGX 164,000, and UACE at UGX 186,000. UNEB warned schools that it is an offence to charge any fees not prescribed by the board.
UNEB Public Relations Officer Jennifer Kalule has since emphasized that candidates, parents, and heads of centres jointly bear the responsibility of verifying all biodata.
She stated that they should ensure correct name spelling as per birth certificate, date of birth, gender, high-resolution photographs, and subjects offered for UCE and UACE candidates.
Meanwhile, candidates must personally sign to confirm the accuracy of their details. Amendments to registered data can still be made free of charge on the portal until the end of July.
