The graduates, in a colourful ceremony held at the division’s headquarters, comprised Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) from Ideology Course Intake 04/2026 and personnel assigned to a Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) task force.

The newly trained personnel are poised for critical assignments, including ongoing disarmament operations in Karamoja and environmental conservation activities within the Mount Elgon Conservation Area (MECA), spanning eight districts across the Sebei and Bugisu sub-regions.

Presiding over the graduation ceremony, the Commander of the 3 Infantry Division, Major General Wilberforce Serunkuma, extended his appreciation to both instructors and trainees for their unwavering dedication throughout the training period.

Maj Gen Serunkuma emphasised the weight of the responsibility now placed upon their shoulders, urging them to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism.

“The certificate is a representation of the responsibility entrusted to you by the UPDF, and your proper execution represents the values of patriotism, integrity, selflessness, and service to the nation,” Maj Gen Serunkuma stated.

The Deputy Division Commander, Brigadier General Allan Kyangungu, delivered a crucial reminder to the officers that wildlife conservation operations demand a fundamentally different approach from disarmament missions.

He urged the personnel to maintain professionalism at all times, strictly adhere to the chain of command, and exercise responsible judgement when utilising digital platforms and smartphone applications in the course of their duties.

Speaking on behalf of the Uganda Wildlife Authority Executive Director, the Commissioner for Operations, Charles Tumwesigye, expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces and the leadership of the 3 Infantry Division for their continued support of the conservation mission.

Tumwesigye underscored the pivotal role the deployed personnel would play in safeguarding the conservation area while simultaneously fostering positive and constructive relationships with surrounding communities.

“The communities around the conservation areas should see you not only as protectors of the park but also as representatives of the government. Uphold the highest standards of professionalism at all times and build positive relationships with the community,” Mr. Tumwesigye advised.

According to the Division Operations and Training Officer, Colonel Santorino Tumuryanze, the comprehensive training programme was meticulously designed to strengthen the leadership, command, and operational capabilities of the NCOs, who constitute a fundamental component of military discipline and overall effectiveness.

Col Tumuryanze confirmed that both the ideology graduates and the UWA taskforce personnel had successfully completed their training modules and were fully prepared for deployment in their respective operational areas.

The ceremony attracted a distinguished assembly of regional leaders and security officials, including Napak RDC Milton Odongo, senior UWA officials, brigade and battalion commanders, the Deputy Commandant of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), the Mount Moroto Regional Police Commander, along with other senior and junior staff officers.
