MUSIC – The creative union behind the smash hit ‘See You Tonight’ lies in ruins, as singers Cindy Sanyu and Omega 256 have ended their relationship amid explosive disagreements over song ownership, revenue, and respect.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The fate of Ugandan divas Cindy Sanyu and Omega 256 has been overshadowed by a bitter financial and creative dispute, as the pair trade public accusations over their once-celebrated collaboration, “See You Tonight.”
What was once hailed as one of the most successful team-ups in recent Ugandan music history has since devolved into a messy public fallout, with each artist presenting starkly different versions of how the hit song was produced, funded, and monetized.
Omega 256 Fires Back: “I Paid for Everything”
Western Uganda-based singer Omega 256 broke her silence this week, directly refuting claims made by Cindy Sanyu regarding the song’s origins. In a televised interview, Omega asserted that she was the sole financial engine behind “See You Tonight.”
“She was not being sincere yesterday as she spoke, because I personally financed the project. I paid for both the audio and video production, as opposed to her claims. She never contributed to the finances,” Omega stated.
According to Omega, the friendship began to fracture once the song started generating YouTube revenue; she alleges Cindy expected a larger earnings cut than what was eventually distributed, and that this money dispute triggered their fallout.
Despite the tension, Omega acknowledged the song’s massive impact, noting that “See You Tonight” continues to earn acclaim and industry accolades.
While speaking separately to Galaxy TV, the “Cindy Le Cooper” star painted a completely different picture of the collaboration, admitting that tensions first arose not just over money but over recognition and awards.
Cindy revealed that every time the duo received an award for “See You Tonight,” Omega’s team claimed they should be the ones taking the trophy, even though Cindy insisted the song belonged to her.
“When we got our award for ‘See You Tonight,’ her team claimed that they should be the ones taking the award. Every time we got an award, they felt like they should be the ones, but the song is mine,” Cindy revealed.
Cindy further explained that she sourced the songwriter, composed the track in her own studio, and handled much of the creative heavy lifting, while Omega’s team did not contribute financially toward production.
The most striking revelation came when Cindy admitted to a strategic error born of goodwill: she agreed to upload the song to Omega’s YouTube channel instead of her own to boost Omega’s career.
Admitting she made a mistake out of kindness, Cindy stated she did not want to take attention away from Omega, explaining that Omega needed the song more than she did.
“I made a mistake out of my kindness. I didn’t want to take the attention away from her, so we put it on her page because she needed the song more than I did,” Cindy confessed.
She also alleged that both parties had signed a 50/50 revenue-sharing agreement, but after distribution, Omega received 60 percent of the earnings, leaving Cindy with just 40 percent, a breach of trust she has not forgotten.
While the financial and creative accounting differs sharply between the two artists, fans are now left watching as the monster hit “See You Tonight” sees its legacy slowly rewritten by legal-sounding claims of unpaid debts, broken agreements, and bruised egos.
