Rubanda – A local market broker in Rubanda District has been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident on Wednesday evening.

Reports indicate that the deceased was hit by a motorcycle (UFR712N), a Bajaj Boxer, that was coming from the Kisoro direction towards Kabale and lost control at the roadside market in Habutobere Village, Muko Sub-county.
Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, saying that the police were notified and a team of police officers led by AIP Mwine (Traffic) responded at the scene.
Maate added that the deceased’s body was taken to Muko Health Centre IV for a postmortem, and the involved motorcycle was towed to Rubanda Police Station pending IOV inspection.
“It is alleged that the motorcyclist, who was traveling from Kisoro towards Kabale, lost control at the Muko market boda boda stage and fatally knocked a broker working at the same stage. Our officers quickly responded to the scene. The victim’s body has been conveyed to Muko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, while the motorcycle is parked at Rubanda Police Station pending inspection,” Maate confirmed.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the rider who fled the scene. Active efforts to track down and arrest the suspect remain ongoing, with inquiries in hand.
