He is a resident of Katooma Cell, Ryeishe Parish, Ibaare Sub-County in Bushenyi District.
Reliable sources indicate that on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Katooma Trading Centre, the suspect attacked a bar owned by Baitwababo Godfrey. He put the owner’s wife, Tushemereirwe Annet, along with three customers, at gunpoint and robbed them of money.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, told the press that the situation quickly turned for the suspect when the victims, displaying immense courage, managed to raise an alarm.
He confirmed that the bar owner, Baitwababo Godfrey, along with his son, wife, and the patrons, overpowered and apprehended the fleeing guard, who had stolen about 40,000 Uganda Shillings from them, before he could escape the scene.
Tayebwa said that the police responded swiftly to the scene and rearrested the suspect from the community members who had already apprehended him, recovering both the stolen cash and the company firearm used during the robbery.
Preliminary investigations and witness accounts suggest the 21-year-old suspect may be a habitual offender, and he remains in police custody at the station as inquiries continue.
The Police Spokesperson added that they are currently investigating whether the same suspect is linked to six other similar aggravated robbery cases reported across Bushenyi District in recent days.
“Our officers at the scene successfully recovered the stolen cash and retrieved the company-issued firearm that was used in the commission of the crime. Currently, we are investigating whether this same suspect is linked to six other similar aggravated robbery cases that have occurred in Bushenyi District over the past few days,” SP Tayebwa stated.
Police have issued a stern warning to private security companies against firearm misuse, reminding them to enforce strict supervision of guards or risk having their operating licenses withdrawn upon the recommendation of the District Security Committee.
The public has been urged to remain calm but vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to authorities. The arrested suspect is expected to be charged in court immediately upon the conclusion of investigations.
