Rubirizi RDC Vows Full Prosecution for Absentee, Corrupt Government Workers

Rubirizi Deputy RDC Robina Mirembe has ordered the arrest and prosecution of all government employees implicated in absenteeism, corruption, or mismanagement of public funds. The directive came during a stormy council session on Friday, where Mirembe warned that negligence would no longer be tolerated and urged leaders to unite in monitoring government projects for the benefit of local communities.

RUBIRIZI – The office of the RDC Rubirizi District has drawn a hard line, threatening an all-out crackdown on government employees embroiled in absenteeism, indolence, corruption, or the squandering of public resources.

The stern warning was delivered by Rubirizi District Deputy RDC Ms. Robina Mirembe on Friday this week during a tense and heated district council session convened at the Rukiko Hall.

Addressing councillors and technical staff during a heated council session, presided over by District Speaker Katesigwa Stivin, Rubirizi Deputy RDC Robina Mirembe decried the rampant negligence in public service that has crippled service delivery.

Rubirizi District LC V councillors and technical staff lock horns during a stormy council session at the district council hall.

She vowed that such misconduct would no longer be tolerated in the district, directing the security agencies to arrest and detain any government worker implicated in absenteeism, laziness, corruption, or mismanagement of public funds.

“Any government worker who misuses their office or neglects their duties will be taken to court and charged accordingly. Those involved in corruption and mismanagement of public funds will face full prosecution. We must ensure value for money and proper accountability in every government program,” Mirembe declared.

The RDC encouraged public servants to embrace diligence, transparency, and accountability, while calling for close coordination with council leaders to monitor government projects and ensure they benefit intended communities.

She warned councillors against abusing their positions or neglecting duties, stressing that council decisions must reflect community needs, urging them to shun practices that undermine service delivery while leading by example.

“Public servants must work hard, be honest, and take responsibility for their actions. Councilors must also work closely with my office to check on government projects and make sure they help the people they are meant for. The decisions you make must address community needs,” Mirembe said.

The RDC’s office and security agencies have committed to supporting councils in the fight against corruption and mismanagement, vowing that every shilling meant for development will be put to good use.

The district NRM Chairperson for Rubirizi District, Edger Manyire, urged leaders to work in unity, uphold discipline, and embrace the NRM ideology of unity, patriotism, and development.

“Division among leaders slows down progress. We must remain disciplined, transparent, and accountable in all government programs to ensure value for money,” Manyire warned.

He called for closer coordination between the council, NRM leadership, and the district executive to strengthen service delivery and address community challenges effectively.

Meanwhile, the Bunyaruguru County Member of Parliament, Hon. Cadet Benjamin, called on local leaders to put aside political differences and work together for the development of Rubirizi District.

“The success of this district depends on unity between leaders and technical staff. At the end of the day, leaders will be judged by voters based on the impact they create on the ground,” MP Benjamin emphasized.

The MP further briefed councillors on key initiatives in the pipeline, including planned skilling centres to combat unemployment, tax relief for small traders, better health and social services for special groups, among others.
