According to Ntungamo District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Kiiza Fedelis, the alarm was raised when Kushaba failed to report to work and did not respond to repeated phone calls.
Fedelis noted that police were forced to break open the padlock to his room, where they found his body lying on the bed, with clotted blood reportedly oozing from his nose.
“The district has lost a devoted, committed, and dependable officer who understood and served the interests of our people with unwavering integrity. He was more than a communicator; he was a bridge between the government and the community,” said an emotional Kiiza.
Ntungamo District Water Engineer Prosper Butubuura, a close friend of Kushaba, recounted their last moments together after attending the burial of Kushaba’s aunt in Nkongoro, Nyabihoko, on Thursday.
Prosper stated that he had supper with the late before he headed home, until the next day when Prosper was told of the tragedy about his friend who failed to report for work and whose calls went unanswered.
“We had just returned from burying his aunt in Nkongoro yesterday and shared supper together before he left for home around 10 p.m. When he didn’t show up for work this morning and all his calls went unanswered, I knew something terribly wrong had happened,” said Eng. Prosper.
