Speaking shortly after receiving the consignment, Chairperson Mutebi announced plans to partner with health specialists from Rugarama Hospital to ensure the professional distribution of the corrective glasses.
“We are committed to ensuring that every resident with an eye defect in Rukiga receives appropriate support. These glasses will significantly improve the quality of life for our people, enabling them to move freely and read without difficulty,” Chairperson Mutebi stated.
Mutebi added that the comprehensive distribution programme will commence on Monday with Mparo Town Council and Rwamucucu, before moving to Muhanga Town Council and Bukinda Sub-county on Tuesday.
The following day, Wednesday, the distribution programme will go to Kamwezi Sub-county, concluding with Kashabya on Thursday, ensuring every resident with eye defects across the district benefits from this initiative.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson warned residents without eye defects against using the glasses, stressing that they are medical devices meant only for those with vision impairments and could cause serious sight problems if worn unnecessarily.
“I want to caution our people without any eye defect, whether long- or short-sightedness, not to come for these glasses. Putting them on when you do not need them may cause serious problems to your sight. These are medical devices designed specifically for those with vision impairments,” Mutebi emphasised.
The initiative comes as a relief to residents who have long struggled with vision problems but could not afford corrective lenses, with the free distribution expected to greatly enhance daily activities.
