KABALE – The Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga, has urged the public to invest Parish Development Model (PDM) funds wisely, stressing that the programme offers a practical route to economic emancipation.

The legislator made the remarks on Sunday, July 19, 2026, as he joined thousands of believers at St. Mark’s Kikungiri Church of Uganda for the annual St. Peter’s Day celebrations, a key fixture in the Anglican liturgical calendar.

The event, which drew a large congregation, featured moments of prayer and reflection as Christians recommitted themselves to the church’s mission while honoring the enduring legacy of the apostle.

Accompanied by his wife at the event, MP Aja Baryayanga emphasized the importance of financial discipline and strategic investment in income-generating activities to ensure sustainable household transformation.

He explained how the PDM initiative is transforming rural livelihoods by shifting households from subsistence farming to commercial enterprises, accelerating Uganda’s transition to a money economy.

“We need financial discipline and wise investment in activities that generate income if we are to transform our households. The PDM is helping families move away from just growing food for themselves to farming for profit,” MP Aja Baryayanga stated.

MP Andrew Aja Baryayanga added that the government initiative is positioning parishes as engines of production and wealth creation, a key step toward lifting the country into middle-income status.

“PDM initiative is turning our parishes into production and wealth centers. In the long run, this will speed up Uganda’s move to a money economy and help us reach middle-income status,” the legislator added.

The event was also attended by the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Enid Origumisiriza, who called upon the people to prepare for the upcoming Local Council I (LC1) elections.

Origumisiriza cautioned against divisive tendencies, encouraging the faithful to foster harmony and collective progress within their communities.

“I call upon all our people to prepare well for the upcoming Local Council I elections. Let us avoid divisive politics and instead embrace unity, harmony, and collective progress so that we together build stronger and more prosperous communities,” said MP Origumisiriza.

St. Peter’s Day, observed annually by Anglican churches across Uganda, serves as a moment of spiritual reflection, renewal, and celebration of the church’s apostolic foundation.
