RUBIRIZI – Traffic Police in Rubirizi have introduced breathalyser testing machines to track down motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol, in a decisive move to curb the rising tide of road accidents.

The ongoing police operation is targeting drunk driving along with reckless riding, theft, poor hygiene, and any behavior that endangers the lives of passengers.
SP Twebaze issued a stern warning against thieves who disguise themselves as boda boda riders at stages, declaring that such criminal acts have increased theft and will no longer be tolerated.
He urged all boda boda riders to be clean, disciplined, and hardworking; to take pride in their profession; and to embrace a saving culture as a pathway to improving their households and fighting poverty, hunger, and domestic conflicts.
“Boda boda riders are the heartbeat of our local transport, but let that heart be clean, disciplined, and lawful, not a hideout for criminals. Your work is vital, so be role models. Saving money fights poverty, hunger, domestic conflicts, and supports government efforts against crime,” Twebaze advised.
Rubirizi District Police Commander Lilian Kikobye emphasized that boda boda riders play a key role in community safety and development, calling for a strong partnership to combat criminality, speeding, and theft.
She warned that reckless driving is the leading cause of crashes in the district, and that any rider caught driving under the influence of alcohol will be arrested and taken to court.

DPC Kikobye further reminded riders to protect passengers’ lives and to assist the police by reporting criminals and thieves who hide at stages to steal property.
Barigye Deo, Chairperson of the Rubirizi Boda Boda Association, called on all riders to be exemplary citizens, avoid speeding, and warned against fake riders operating at stages.
He urged them to work closely with their families, embrace a saving culture, and live peacefully, free from poverty, hunger, and domestic conflicts.
Rider Bazurizi Johnbosco from Nyakasharu stage expressed gratitude to the traffic police for the new guidelines, saying the session provided knowledge and skills to prevent accidents and protect lives.
The dialogue meeting marks a new chapter in Rubirizi’s road safety campaign, with police vowing to sustain operations until all rogue riders are weeded out and discipline is fully restored on the roads.
