KABALE – The appointed Vice Chairperson of the Northern Division in Kabale Municipality, Hon. Ketty Baryayanga, has vowed to place strong emphasis on empowering the girl child through education and addressing school dropouts linked to child marriage.

Ketty Baryayanga said this shortly after taking oath as the female councillor representing Kijuguta Upper Ward, followed by her appointment on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the division headquarters.

The event was presided over by the Kabale Chief Magistrate, His Worship Derrick Byamugisha, and witnessed by the Chief Guest, Kabale Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro, among other dignitaries.

Following her appointment, Hon. Ketty Baryayanga, mother of Municipal Legislator Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga, laid out a five-year strategy to advocate for the rights of the girl child in education.

She stated that her new team will focus on empowering girls by tackling school dropouts, providing sanitary pads, and taking her long-standing work in skills training to an even higher level.

“Every girl deserves not just a seat in the classroom, but the pads, the skills, and the support to stay there, because when we lift the girl child, we lift an entire community,” Ketty Baryayanga stated.

Hon. Ketty further pledged to implement the NRM manifesto over the next five years, sensitize residents to rise out of poverty, and launch an elders’ group so they can keep empowering one another.

Meanwhile, the new Chairperson of Northern Division in Kabale Municipality, Hon. Patrick Tushabomwe, unveiled drainage and road rehabilitation as his administration’s top priorities.

He confirmed plans to unblock clogged culverts and create new drainage channels to end the flooding that residents of Bugongi and Kijuguta wards have long suffered during rainy seasons.

“No resident should have to wade through floods to reach home, and no community should be cut off because of a neglected road. My leadership will unblock both our drainage channels,” stated Chairperson Patrick.

Chairperson Patrick added that his leadership will also open several poor community feeder roads to improve access to main routes and boost land values across the division.

It should be noted that Hon. Ketty Baryayanga has been the division councillor for over 15 years and is positioned as a trustworthy and hardworking political figure in the municipality.
