KAMPALA – Minister of State for Finance Henry Musasizi has been named on a long list of individuals linked to an alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering scandal involving former Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among.

The high-stakes corruption investigation has placed Among under house arrest and widened dramatically to ensnare the sitting Minister of Finance and several other key lawmakers.

The dramatic turn of events unfolded on Saturday when joint security teams, led by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), raided Among’s residence on MacKinnon Road, Nakasero, Kampala.

As the probe intensifies, former Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has been placed under house arrest while investigators zero in on her closest political associates to delve into complex financial irregularities.

Minister Henry Musasizi, who also serves as the MP for Rubanda County East, has emerged alongside Hon. Dicksons Kateshumbwa (Sheema Municipality MP) as a key person of interest.

Sources indicate that investigators are meticulously examining alleged financial networks, questionable procurement dealings, and deep coordination between politically connected figures inside Parliament and various government ministries.

“The scope of alleged money laundering and illicit enrichment extends far beyond one individual. We are looking at networks that facilitated the movement of wealth and influence,” a highly placed security source confirmed on condition of anonymity.

The probe first gained public momentum when the Woman MP for Masaka City, Justine Nameere Nsubuga, an ally of Among, was apprehended Friday at Hotel Brovad, leading a celebratory convoy after her swearing-in ceremony.

Security operatives, in a startling prelude to the wider investigation, reportedly recovered Shs3.5 billion in cash from Nameere’s Kampala-based residence, according to highly placed security sources.

Meanwhile, in a further sign of the investigation’s reach, the Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Parliament, Chris Obore, was also apprehended in Mukono over allegations of having “corruption roots” connected to Anita Among.

The dragnet has extended to multiple legislators, including Hon. Solomon Silwanyi, Hon. Kawalya Abubaker, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, Hon. Cissy Namujju, and Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, who have been summoned to record statements at the CID Headquarters in Kibuli.

Security sources allege that the summoned individuals are running multi-billion shilling businesses and managing vast wealth that purportedly belongs to the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among.

The security operation targeting Anita Among has expanded geographically, with investigators not limiting themselves to her Nakasero residence.

Sources confirm that search teams have widened their efforts to include a residence in Ntinda, Nakawa division, as well as another prime property in Kigo, Wakiso district.
