The suspects have been identified as Nshaka Erastus, 64, a resident of Kanyabukungu Village in Nyakabande Sub-county, and Muhanika Aliphonsi, 61, a resident of Nshora Village, Nyarusiza Sub-county, both in Kisoro.

Nshaka, the Chairperson of the District Service Commission, and Muhanika, a local businessman, are both facing serious allegations of Abuse of Office and Corruption.

Sources allege that the duo are accused of soliciting a bribe of Five Million Uganda Shillings (UGX 5,000,000) from a victim who was seeking employment through the District Service Commission.

The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, noted that the two were held and taken to Police custody at Kisoro CPS following a formal complaint lodged by the aggrieved party.

He confirmed that the police file has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for consent, paving the way for the suspects’ arraignment in court should clearance be granted.

The Police Spokesperson reiterated the force’s unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability while urging victims of extortion or irregular hiring to report to police.

“Police remains committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in Public Service Recruitment. We urge members of the public who have been victims of extortion or irregular recruitment to come forward and report to the nearest police station without fear,” stated SP Tumushime.

The Police Spokesperson further cautioned all public officials against exploiting their offices for personal gain, emphasizing that the law would be enforced impartially and without favor.
