RUBIRIZI – Authorities and local stakeholders in Rubirizi District have united against rising crime and social disorder, declaring zero tolerance and threatening offenders with arrest and prosecution.

During a community security sensitization engagement on Wednesday at Kanyara Trading Centre in Butoha Parish, Magambo Sub-county, leaders threatened to crack down on rampant criminality and social misconduct.
Addressing the locals, Rubirizi Police Community Liaison Officer Twesigye Caleb explained that the initiative is part of a broader campaign to raise awareness about government directives concerning alcohol control, domestic violence, theft, and land disputes.
Twesigye further warned that security agencies have already begun operations to hunt down criminals, expressing grave concern over escalating cases of livestock theft, drug abuse, and rampant excessive alcohol consumption.
“The rampant cases of stealing livestock, drug abuse, and over-drinking must stop immediately. We have started operations to ensure that all criminals are arrested and brought before the authorities. We are sending a clear message: obey the law, or you will face the full force of the law,” Twesigye declared.
Barry Wickliff, the Project Coordinator for the Communication for Development Foundation Uganda, who served as one of the key facilitators, urged both local leaders and residents to embrace good conduct, harmony, and mediation.
He passionately appealed to the community to shift their focus from idleness and conflict to productive activities that can develop their homes and uplift their livelihoods.
“It is time to avoid conflicts that can lead you into crime. Our training specifically targets LC1s and LC2s to help them understand their critical role in society, particularly on how to handle cases using small claims procedures. We urge residents to always use their local leaders to solve their problems amicably before they escalate into criminal matters,” Wickliff stated.
Magambo Sub-county LC3 Chairperson Birungi Narsisio warned residents to desist from criminal activities, expressing dismay that some have become entangled in theft, violence, and assault, transforming into hardened criminals.
He urged the community to be responsible and obey the law to remain free and safe while avoiding the agony of court cases, further raising alarm over increasing domestic violence that is causing deep pain, division, and sorrow in many homes.
“Be responsible and obey the law if you want to remain free, safe, and avoid the agony of court cases,” Birungi asserted.
Birungi expressed deep concern over domestic violence tearing families apart, calling on residents to work closely with police and local leaders to fight crime and report offenders so that negative elements can be removed from society.
Kanyara Village leaders Katushabe Agnes and Kyomuhangi Jovuret extended sincere appreciation to Rubirizi Police for the security education initiative, describing it as exactly what the community needed to address rising crime.
They expressed confidence that the sensitization will empower residents to combat domestic violence, steer clear of criminal activities, and improve their livelihoods while fostering peace, cooperation, and harmony within the community.
