The convicted educators were found guilty of compromising the 2025 PLE, a critical assessment that determines learners’ transition to secondary school.
The offenses took place in Kassanda District, which emerged as the epicenter of PLE malpractice during the 2025 national examination season.
According to court records, the scandal involved a well-orchestrated scheme led by the Director of Nkoba Primary School, who conspired with the District Inspector of Schools for Kassanda.
The two allegedly coordinated to cut and extract examination materials before distributing them electronically to candidates and other teachers prior to the officially approved starting time.
Delivering the sentence, His Worship Byarugaba emphasized that such conduct strikes at the heart of the nation’s education system, undermining fairness, merit, and the future of innocent learners.
The one-year custodial sentence serves as both punishment and deterrent, with the ruling brings the total number of convicted persons in the Kassanda case to 15 out of the 30 originally accused.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has also welcomed the verdict, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the credibility of national assessments.
