Iran Launches Retaliatory Missile Strikes on U.S. Bases in the Middle East

INTERNATIONAL – Iran has launched missile attacks on American military bases across the Middle East, causing a major escalation in the region in retaliation for recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on its territory.

Countries including Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait have reported either being hit by missiles or intercepting them.

The Iranian operation follows a coordinated attack on Iran by the U.S. and Israel, which struck multiple key locations including the capital Tehran, where the compound of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was targeted.

The strikes, part of a campaign named “Operation Epic Fury,” also hit the cities of Isfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Qom, and Karaj, as well as the western province of Lorestan.

According to U.S. officials, the operation aims to degrade Iran’s military capabilities and prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.

A strike in Abu Dhabi killed one Asian national as Iran’s Revolutionary Guard vowed to continue its operations “until the enemy is completely defeated,” sparking fears of a wider war.

Iran launched its missile attacks as a response to Saturday’s joint U.S.-Israeli strikes, asserting its right to self-defense against what it condemns as an “act of aggression” by the United States and Israel.

Iranian state media report that the violence has resulted in significant civilian casualties, including a strike on an elementary school for girls in the southern city of Minab that killed at least 51 people and injured 60 others.

Another attack hit a school east of the capital, Tehran, as Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, shared a photo of the damaged school and condemned the killing of “innocent children.

“Araghchi warned that “these crimes will not go unanswered,” vowing retaliation as the civilian toll from the recent escalation continues to rise.

In an interview, Foreign Minister Araghchi expressed surprise at the U.S. attack, saying that negotiations between the two countries were going well.

He mentioned that Iranian officials had recently held a “very good meeting” in Geneva with American representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

“I don’t know why, while we were progressing in our talks and a deal was within our reach, they decided to attack us,” Araghchi said.

He also dismissed calls from President Trump for regime change in Iran, saying it was impossible because millions of people support the government.
