The case came before the court on Monday morning, with both Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, the former Kanungu District Chairperson, and Dr. Chris Baryomunsi appearing before visiting Justice Richard Wejuli Wabwire, who presided over the session.

During the court proceedings held this morning, the court directed Hon. Sam Kajojo to file additional affidavits and other outstanding documents ahead of the substantive hearing of the petition.

The court has given Kajojo until September 18, 2026, to file the required documents, while Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has been directed to file his documents by September 16, 2026.

Kajojo, through his lawyers from Ngaruye Ruhindi Company Advocates, has challenged the election results for Kinkizi East Constituency, maintaining that the results did not properly reflect the outcome and that the electoral process was not handled to his satisfaction.

Speaking to journalists after the court session, Kajojo said he and his legal team are ready for the September 24 hearing and maintained that he believes he won the Kinkizi East parliamentary seat in the January 15, 2026 elections.

Minister Chris Baryomunsi noted he will return to court on September 24 and await the court’s decision, while his lawyer, Mwesigwa Rukutwana, reiterated that their legal team remains fully prepared for the hearing.

The court now awaits the commencement of the substantive hearing of the petition after both parties have duly and fully filed the outstanding documents as directed by the court.
